Start With the Web App and Your Starter Nation

If you can access the FC 27 Web App or Companion App, I recommend beginning there. It gives you a chance to organize the club before immediately jumping into matches.

Your first major decision is the starter nation. Based on the early objectives and the types of players you are likely to encounter, England or Spain are sensible choices. English players and LaLiga cards can be useful for completing early objectives, especially when Season 1 challenges start asking for particular leagues or nationalities.

Don’t overthink this decision, though. Your starter nation isn’t going to determine the quality of your club six months from now.

Don’t Waste Your First Cards on Random SBCs

The new Streamlined SBC system is one of the biggest changes to how beginners should approach squad building.

Instead of thinking about SBCs as complicated puzzles that require sacrificing specific players, FC 27’s streamlined approach puts more emphasis on reaching the required score or threshold.

The introductory challenges are therefore a good place to start.

You will encounter early challenges such as A New Signing, Trading Up, The Royal, and The Multi Submit. These are designed to teach the system without demanding that you throw away the best players in your club.

For me, the important rule is simple:

Never submit a useful player just because an SBC says you can.

If you have a fast winger, strong center-back, or midfielder with a useful PlayStyle, keep them until you have a replacement.

Low-value untradeables and unwanted duplicates are much better SBC material.

The Gold Reroll SBC can also become a useful part of the early club cycle, allowing you to recycle low-value cards into better chances at usable gold players.

The FUT Gallery Is More Important Than It Looks

The FUT Gallery is probably the feature beginners should understand early because it changes how you look at your collection.

In previous Ultimate Team cycles, submitting or discarding a player generally meant saying goodbye to that card. The Gallery instead works as a persistent collection system, allowing eligible items to contribute toward themed sets.

These sets can involve:

• Nations
• Leagues
• Clubs
• Campaigns
• Special collection themes

And there is an important distinction: the Gallery isn’t simply another SBC where your players disappear.

4. Use standing tackles deliberately.
5. Position your defender before attacking the ball.

Players with Anticipate or Intercept can be particularly useful because their PlayStyles complement this approach.

I also recommend enabling the Shooting Visual indicator in the Visual settings. It gives you a better idea of where your shot input is actually pointing.

That might sound like a small setting, but when you’re learning a new game, visual feedback is incredibly useful.

Two Formations I’d Start With

I wouldn’t spend the first week constantly changing formations.

Pick something comfortable and learn how it behaves.

4-4-2: The Easy Starting Point

The classic 4-4-2 remains a very practical setup for a new club.

You get two strikers, two wide midfielders, and a straightforward defensive structure. It is easy to understand and doesn’t require a squad full of specialist players.

I’d keep the tactics relatively balanced and use:

• Stay Central for the strikers
• At least one central midfielder on Stay Back While Attacking
• Balanced defensive instructions while learning the system

The biggest advantage is simplicity. You can concentrate on learning FC 27 instead of fighting your own tactics.

4-2-3-1: For Players Who Like Possession

If you prefer controlling the center, the 4-2-3-1 is another strong starting structure.

The two defensive midfielders provide protection in front of the center-backs, while the CAM gives you an additional passing option.

I particularly like the idea of using a mobile CAM with Free Roam, while your wide attacking players should ideally have pace and useful attacking PlayStyles such as Rapid or First Touch.

Don’t Blow Your Coins in Week One

This is probably my biggest Ultimate Team rule.

Don’t spend 30,000 coins just because a player looks amazing on day one.

The early market moves quickly. More packs enter the game, rewards arrive, promotions change demand, and players that looked expensive on launch can lose significant value.

For your first squad, I would look for cheap gold players around the 600–650 coin range, particularly fullbacks and center-backs from popular leagues.

The idea isn’t to create your dream squad immediately.

The idea is to create a temporary squad that gets the job done without destroying your budget.

A player purchased near discard value can be used for several matches and then replaced without a huge financial loss. That gives you much more freedom to experiment.

Popular leagues such as the Premier League, LaLiga, and Bundesliga are particularly useful because their players can provide easier chemistry solutions as your club grows.

What I Would Avoid During the First Week

There are a few traps that are extremely easy to fall into.

Don’t panic-buy expensive cards. If a player costs 20,000 coins today, that doesn’t mean he will still be worth 20,000 tomorrow.

Don’t submit every duplicate into an SBC immediately. Check whether the card has Gallery value, market value, or future squad potential.

Don’t build around one expensive player. A balanced team of cheap, functional cards is usually more useful while you’re learning the game.

And I definitely wouldn’t spend all of my available currency chasing packs just because the opening animation looks tempting.

Keep some liquidity.

That becomes especially important when major promotions arrive.

My First-Week EA FC 27 Routine

If I were starting a completely fresh Ultimate Team club, my routine would look something like this:

The FUT Gallery, Streamlined SBCs, FUT Moments, and Rush rewards give beginners several ways to make progress without relying entirely on FC Points.

Most importantly, don’t forget that your first squad isn’t supposed to be your final squad.

Build something functional, learn how FC 27 actually plays, keep your coins available, and upgrade when the right opportunity appears. That’s a much more enjoyable way to start a new Ultimate Team season than constantly trying to catch the most expensive card on the market.
