007 First Light Rogue Agent 009 Boss Fight Guide: How to Beat MI6’s Greatest Traitor

When I first reached the Agent 009 fight in 007 First Light, I honestly expected another cinematic “shoot-the-glowing-weak-spot” boss battle. Instead, IO Interactive pulled off something way smarter — a tense spy duel that genuinely feels like fighting another version of Bond himself.

And on Purist difficulty? This fight becomes brutal in the best possible way.

If you’ve been getting destroyed by 009’s camouflage tricks, gadget jamming, or those ridiculously aggressive melee combos, don’t worry. After replaying the encounter multiple times and experimenting with different gadget setups, I found a few strategies that make the battle far more manageable without ruining the intensity of the encounter.

What makes this fight so memorable is that 009 doesn’t behave like a normal action-game villain. He fights like a trained MI6 operative because that’s exactly what he is — a rogue agent who knows every dirty trick Bond knows.

Why the Agent 009 Boss Fight Feels Different

Most stealth-action games struggle with boss fights. Usually the mechanics break down and suddenly the game turns into a generic arena shooter. But IO Interactive clearly learned from the mistakes of older stealth franchises.

009 adapts.

That’s the scary part.

If you keep hiding behind the same cover, he flushes you out with explosives. If you spam gadgets, he starts counter-jamming your equipment. If you rush melee attacks, he punishes you almost instantly with devastating counters.

The whole fight feels less like fighting an AI and more like fighting another player who understands the game systems better than you do.

And honestly? That’s exactly what a rogue Double-O agent should feel like.

Best Loadout Before the Fight

Before starting the mission section leading into the confrontation, I highly recommend changing your gadget setup. Going in with random gear makes the encounter way harder than it needs to be.

My Recommended Setup

Gadget / WeaponWhy It Matters
Q-Lens ScannerEssential for spotting 009 during cloak phases
Signal Jammer WatchHard counters his electronic interference
High-Impact Dot PhoneSurprisingly useful for environmental damage
Suppressed P99Accurate enough for stagger shots
Heavy SidearmBetter stopping power during final phase

The biggest mistake players make is focusing on raw firepower. This isn’t that kind of boss fight. Precision and timing matter far more than DPS.

Phase 1 — Cargo Hold Chaos

The opening section throws you directly into panic mode.

009 traps Bond inside a cargo hangar while his security squad floods the area with suppressive fire. On higher difficulties, standing still for even two seconds can get you shredded.

My first attempt ended in less than a minute because I focused entirely on 009 while his henchmen flanked me from both sides.

Big mistake.

What Actually Works

  • Eliminate the goons first: Seriously. Ignore 009 for the opening minute.
  • Keep rotating around the arena: The environment changes constantly during this section. Crates shift, barriers collapse, and sightlines open unexpectedly.
  • Watch for reload windows: 009 becomes vulnerable for brief moments after aggressive firing sequences.

His support enemies are the real threat because they force you out of cover and ruin your positioning. Once they’re gone, the fight becomes much more readable.

Treat the arena like a moving puzzle instead of a static cover shooter.

Body shots barely matter early on because of his armored tactical suit.

The Mid-Fight Twist Is Incredible

Once you damage him enough, the entire fight changes.

And this is where the encounter goes from “cool” to genuinely memorable.

009 activates a localized jammer that wipes out your HUD, distorts the audio, and fills sections of the arena with smoke and darkness. Suddenly you’re fighting almost blind.

The first time this happened, I panicked immediately.

No minimap. No clean targeting. No reliable visibility.

Classic Bond nightmare scenario.

But after a few attempts, I realized the fight quietly teaches you something important: stop relying on UI and start paying attention to sound.

Phase 2 — Hunting the Ghost

This section is probably my favorite part of the entire boss fight.

009 uses active camouflage while stalking Bond through the smoke-filled arena, occasionally rushing in for devastating melee attacks.

And yes, he absolutely cheats.

But in a fun way.

How I Finally Beat This Section

  • Listen carefully: The sound design here is ridiculously good.
  • Use the Signal Jammer aggressively: The watch gadget is basically mandatory.
  • Don’t get greedy with melee attacks: Three hits max, then disengage immediately.

You can actually track 009 through footsteps on metal flooring, radio chatter, cloak distortion sounds, and movement through smoke.

Using headphones helps a lot.

Whenever screen interference intensifies, trigger the jammer immediately. It temporarily overloads 009’s suit and exposes him for a few seconds.

That short stun window is everything.

You can land a short combo after stunning him, but if you overcommit, he instantly counters with a sweep attack that deletes huge chunks of health.

Final Phase — Pure Bond Brutality

Once 009’s stealth systems fail completely, the fight becomes far more aggressive.

No more hiding. No more gadgets carrying you.

Now it’s just Bond versus a rogue MI6 operative in brutal close-quarters combat.

And honestly? This final section feels like something straight out of a modern Bond movie finale.

009 becomes insanely fast during this phase. He chains together throws, counters, and heavy attacks with almost no downtime.

On Purist difficulty, a few mistakes can end the run completely.

The Secret to Winning the Final Phase

The answer is surprisingly simple: Parry everything.

Trying to outpunch 009 usually ends badly because his counters are faster and stronger than yours.

  1. Maintain distance
  2. Wait for his attack animation
  3. Time the parry at the last possible second
  4. Counterattack briefly
  5. Back away immediately

It almost feels like a fighting game at this point.

And weirdly enough, that’s what makes it so satisfying.

Environmental Damage Is Overpowered

One thing I absolutely loved about this fight is how interactive the arena becomes during the ending phase.

You can weaponize hanging cargo chains, steam pipes, electrical panels, and explosive containers.

Luring 009 near environmental hazards deals massive damage and makes the encounter feel far more cinematic.

My favorite moment was baiting him near a damaged steam valve and triggering it with the Dot Phone mid-combo. It looked straight out of a Bond action sequence.

Purist Difficulty Tips

TipWhy It Matters
Never repeat patterns009 adapts aggressively
Conserve gadgetsOverusing tools gets punished
Keep movingStatic cover becomes a death trap
Prioritize parriesMelee timing is everything
Use hazards constantlyEnvironmental damage is huge

Purist mode genuinely transforms this boss fight into one of the hardest encounters IO Interactive has ever designed.

But also one of the most rewarding.

Final Thoughts

The Agent 009 fight is easily one of the standout moments in 007 First Light and maybe one of the best boss fights in a spy game in years.

What impressed me most is how well it respects the fantasy of being James Bond. You’re not some unstoppable superhero here. You’re improvising, adapting, and surviving against someone trained exactly like you.

That makes every phase feel personal.

Instead of relying on giant health bars or over-the-top gimmicks, IO Interactive built a tense psychological duel between two elite operatives — and it works incredibly well.

If future Bond games keep delivering encounters like this, the franchise is in very good hands.
