ZeroSpace Faction Tier List 2026: Best Main Factions Ranked (Early Access Meta Guide)
ZeroSpace has managed to do something that very few modern RTS games pull off—it feels both comfortably familiar and refreshingly original. If you’ve spent years grinding StarCraft II ladders, experimenting with Company of Heroes, or sinking hundreds of hours into Command & Conquer, you’ll immediately recognize the foundations. Then the game throws heroes, mercenary squads, evolving battlefields, and RPG-style progression into the mix, creating something that quickly becomes addictive.
After spending plenty of time watching high-level matches, digging through community discussions, testing builds myself, and comparing strategies from experienced competitive players, one thing has become obvious: every faction is viable, but they are definitely not equally forgiving.
The current Early Access balance heavily rewards factions that can reliably execute solid macro while adapting to unexpected situations. Some armies naturally fit that philosophy better than others.
Below is my complete ZeroSpace faction ranking for the current 2026 competitive meta.
ZeroSpace Faction Tier List (2026)
| Tier | Faction | Difficulty | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | Protectorate | Easy-Medium | Balanced players, ladder climbing |
| A | Grell | Medium-Hard | Macro lovers, map control |
| B | Legion of Truth | Hard | Aggressive hero-focused players |
| C | Xol | Very Hard | Experienced RTS veterans |
While balance patches will almost certainly shake things up later, this ranking reflects what currently delivers the most consistent results in ranked play.
S-Tier — Protectorate
The Most Reliable Faction in ZeroSpace
If somebody asked me which faction to recommend for climbing ranked as quickly as possible, my answer wouldn’t require even a second of thought.
Protectorate simply does everything well.
They’re never completely overpowered in one area, but they’re also never truly weak. That flexibility is exactly why they’re dominating the current ladder.
Fans of Terran from StarCraft II will immediately feel at home. Strong defensive positions, excellent ranged units, powerful mechanized armies, and dependable macro all combine into a toolkit that rarely feels limited.
Why Protectorate Rules the Current Meta
Their greatest strength isn’t raw damage.
It’s consistency.
Every stage of the match feels comfortable:
- Safe early expansion
- Reliable defensive options
- Excellent mid-game pressure
- Powerful late-game armored armies
- Strong support abilities from the top command bar
Unlike several factions that depend on risky openings or gimmicks, Protectorate rewards clean RTS fundamentals.
That makes mistakes far less punishing.
Biggest Strengths
Balanced Unit Roster
Infantry, vehicles, artillery, aircraft and heavy armor all complement one another naturally.
Excellent Defensive Control
Holding resource nodes becomes significantly easier thanks to durable defensive structures and long-range firepower.
Smooth Tech Progression
The transition into late-game mechanical armies feels natural rather than forced.
Great Mercenary Synergy
Several mercenary groups perfectly complement Protectorate weaknesses, making already flexible armies even stronger.
Weaknesses
The downside is fairly simple.
Experienced opponents usually know exactly what you’re trying to build.
Protectorate doesn’t rely on surprise mechanics, so skilled enemies can prepare counters earlier than against more unconventional factions.
Still, predictable efficiency is often better than unreliable creativity.
A-Tier — Grell
Masters of Map Control
Grell completely changes how you think about controlling territory.
Instead of dropping traditional futuristic buildings everywhere, this alien civilization spreads living biological landscapes that slowly transform the battlefield itself.
It’s one of the coolest mechanics currently available in any RTS.
Watching entire sections of the map become your ecosystem never really gets old.
Why Grell Is So Dangerous
Left alone for ten minutes…
Good luck stopping them.
Their economy grows incredibly fast once their biological expansion starts snowballing.
That advantage eventually translates into overwhelming production, stronger upgrades, and relentless pressure from multiple directions.
Major Advantages
Living Terrain
Your expanding meadows provide vision, improve your own army, and make enemy movement much more difficult.
Infusion Ability
One of the strongest global faction mechanics currently available.
Instead of only improving your core units, Infusion also upgrades recruited mercenary forces, opening countless strategic combinations.
Mobility
Fast units constantly threaten expansions, forcing opponents to defend multiple locations simultaneously.
Where Grell Struggles
Everything falls apart if opponents deny expansion early.
Without biological terrain covering the battlefield, Grell loses much of its natural advantage.
Aggressive players who refuse to let Grell establish comfortable economic growth can shut them down before they become terrifying.
B-Tier — Legion of Truth
Incredible Power… If You Can Afford It
Legion of Truth easily wins the award for coolest aesthetic.
Dark futuristic crusaders.
Massive customized war machines.
Disposable fanatical soldiers.
Gigantic battlefield weapons.
Everything screams over-the-top sci-fi.
Unfortunately, style alone doesn’t win ranked games.
Triple Hero System
This is probably the most unique mechanic among every current faction.
Instead of relying on a single commander, Legion can deploy up to three specialized heroes simultaneously.
Managing multiple active abilities dramatically increases their combat potential—but it also demands much more attention from the player.
The skill ceiling is enormous.
Massive Custom Super Units
Rather than producing fixed late-game units, Legion allows players to customize enormous battlefield machines.
Different weapon modules let you tailor each machine toward specific enemy armies.
Some examples include:
- Heavy Gatling systems
- Flamethrower upgrades
- Energy shield modules
- Specialized anti-armor configurations
The amount of customization feels fantastic.
Thrall Swarms
Cheap expendable infantry forms the backbone of Legion armies.
Their purpose isn’t survival.
They’re there to absorb incoming fire while expensive elite machines deal the real damage.
The Biggest Problem
Flux.
Every Legion player eventually learns to hate this resource.
Heroes require it.
Major upgrades require it.
Super-unit customization requires it.
Lose a heavily upgraded capital unit after investing huge amounts of Flux and recovering becomes incredibly painful.
That’s exactly why Legion sits below Grell despite having incredible offensive potential.
C-Tier — Xol
The Hardest Faction to Truly Master
Don’t misunderstand this ranking.
Xol is not weak.
Far from it.
The problem is that almost nobody plays them efficiently yet.
They’re easily the most mechanically demanding faction currently available.
Morphing Instead of Building
Traditional RTS games ask players to produce counter units from different production structures.
Xol completely ignores that concept.
Basic robotic organisms merge directly into stronger battlefield forms.
Entire armies evolve while combat is happening.
It’s an amazing mechanic.
It’s also extremely stressful.
Why Experienced Players Love Xol
Dynamic Army Composition
Your army can transform into different counters much faster than opponents expect.
Scouting Becomes Difficult
Seeing early units tells opponents almost nothing because those same units may evolve into something completely different minutes later.
Late-Game Monsters
Fully evolved Xol armies become terrifying once maximum tech levels are reached.
Why Most Players Lose
The early game feels fragile.
Every merge requires investment.
Interrupting those upgrades with an aggressive attack often destroys expensive units before they finish evolving.
Until the community fully optimizes build orders, Xol will probably remain a niche competitive pick.
ZeroSpace RTS Macro Guide: Best Beginner Strategy and Base Building Tips
Which ZeroSpace Faction Fits Your Playstyle?
Choosing the strongest faction isn’t always the smartest decision.
Finding one that naturally matches how you enjoy RTS games usually produces better long-term results.
| Playstyle | Recommended Faction |
|---|---|
| Defensive macro | Protectorate |
| Economy and expansion | Grell |
| Constant aggression | Legion of Truth |
| Advanced mechanics | Xol |
Personally, I’d recommend:
- Protectorate for new players.
- Grell for experienced macro specialists.
- Legion of Truth if you love controlling heroes.
- Xol only if you’re comfortable learning one of the game’s steepest mechanical curves.

Final Thoughts
One of ZeroSpace’s biggest achievements is making every faction feel like an entirely different RTS experience.
Switching from Protectorate to Grell almost feels like loading another game.
Jumping from Legion into Xol demands an entirely new mindset.
That’s impressive design.
For now, Protectorate remains the safest and strongest overall choice thanks to its dependable macro, balanced army composition, and ability to answer almost every situation without relying on gimmicks.
Grell isn’t far behind, especially in the hands of players who excel at map control and economic growth. Given enough breathing room, they can overwhelm opponents through sheer production and battlefield presence.
Legion of Truth offers explosive power and some of the most entertaining mechanics in the game, but its dependence on Flux and demanding resource management make it less forgiving over long ranked sessions.
Finally, Xol sits at the bottom of this list only because the faction is still largely unexplored. Their battlefield metamorphosis system has enormous competitive potential, and I wouldn’t be surprised if future tournaments completely change the community’s perception once elite players unlock their full capabilities.
It’s also worth remembering that ZeroSpace isn’t built around main factions alone. Mercenary companies, hero selections, and talent choices can completely reshape how each army performs. Covering your faction’s natural weaknesses with the right supporting roster often matters just as much as the faction itself.
With balance updates arriving throughout Early Access, today’s rankings won’t stay frozen forever. New strategies appear almost weekly, and the meta is evolving faster than many expected. Even so, if your goal is to win more ranked matches right now, Protectorate offers the smoothest path to success, Grell rewards patient macro players, Legion delivers unmatched battlefield spectacle, and Xol remains the ultimate challenge for RTS veterans looking to master something truly different.
