Path of Idle Old Gods Rising Unique Items Drop Locations: Farming Guide (2026)

If there is one thing that can completely change the way your team plays in Path of Idle: Old Gods Rising, it is a good Unique item.

You can spend hours upgrading talents, tweaking your formation, improving the town and stacking better rares, only to discover that one properly chosen Unique suddenly makes half of that work feel unnecessary. That is the fun — and occasionally the incredibly annoying part — of the game’s loot system.

The basic idea is familiar if you’ve played other loot-heavy RPGs. Most gear simply makes your numbers bigger. Uniques are different. They can change how a class deals damage, create strange interactions between talents, or turn a mediocre build into something that absolutely shreds content.

And yes, Unique farming in Path of Idle can be painfully random.

I’ve seen the kind of situation where you get three copies of something you don’t need while the one item that would complete your build refuses to appear. That’s why blindly pushing higher content isn’t always the best strategy. Sometimes the smartest move is to stop pushing, find the fastest reliable farm, and simply increase the number of loot rolls you generate.

This is how I’d approach Unique farming in 2026.

First: Understand How Unique Drops Actually Work

Before worrying about individual bosses, it helps to understand what the game is checking when loot is generated.

There are several layers involved. Your Magic Find or Item Rarity, the level of the content you’re farming, and the specific loot pool all matter.

Think of it roughly like this:

  1. Rarity check: The game determines what rarity your potential item can become.
  2. Item-level check: The content has to be high enough level for the Unique you’re hunting.
  3. Loot-pool check: The game determines whether that Unique belongs to the general pool or a restricted table.
  4. Specific encounter check: Certain bosses, realms and Tower floors can have access to items you simply won’t see elsewhere.

That last part is the one that causes the most wasted farming time.

If you’re chasing a boss-exclusive Unique, running random campaign stages for six hours isn’t “bad luck.” It’s the wrong loot table.

Global Uniques Are Your Early Farming Friends

Not every Unique needs a complicated endgame farming route.

Some early and mid-game items belong to the Global Drop Pool, which means they can appear from a much wider range of enemies and activities. Items such as the Idol of the Deep Ones and Cultist’s Rusted Shackle fall into this category.

For these, I wouldn’t obsess over farming the highest possible stage.

That’s actually one of the biggest mistakes players make in idle RPGs.

If you can destroy a lower stage almost instantly but need 45–60 seconds to clear a much higher one, the higher stage isn’t automatically better. What matters is how many meaningful loot rolls you generate over time.

A fast stage that takes 10 seconds can potentially give you several times more attempts per hour than a difficult stage that takes a full minute.

So when farming a Global Unique, I recommend testing three or four stages and measuring your actual clear speed rather than simply choosing the stage with the biggest number.

Restricted Uniques Are a Different Game

The best build-defining Uniques are usually much less forgiving.

These are tied to specific bosses, Tower ranges, Realm mechanics or other specialized content. You can’t simply hope that a random merchant eventually sells them.

That’s where targeted farming becomes important.

Here are some of the major targets worth building your farming route around:

Y’gari, The Slumbering Monarch

Location: Abyssal Trench, Realm Tier 4+

Y’gari is one of those bosses that can make you rethink your entire setup.

The fight heavily rewards cosmic resistance and a durable frontline, but the loot is what makes repeated clears worthwhile.

The standout reward is Gaze of the Abyss, a Unique helmet designed around spellcasting. The area-of-effect increase is already useful, but the Madness effect is what makes it interesting for a dedicated caster setup.

Then there’s the Tentacle-Grip Greatstaff.

This is much more build-specific. Converting frontline physical damage into Chaos damage creates some genuinely weird possibilities when combined with the right support abilities. If you’re experimenting with Chaos-based compositions, this is one of the items I’d put on the farming list.

The important thing is not to farm Y’gari just because he’s available. Farm him because one of his drops actually improves your build.

Xal’atoth, The Faceless Devourer

Location: Void Crypt, Dark Tower Floors 90–110

Xal’atoth is where things start getting serious.

The Shroud of the Faceless is particularly attractive for Shadow and corruption-focused teams because of its defensive utility and Mana interaction.

The more interesting item, though, may be Devourer’s Ring of Feast.

A chance to reset your team’s ultimate cooldown when an elite dies sounds modest until you build around it. In the right composition, that effect can create some ridiculous chains during dense encounters.

This is exactly the kind of Unique that makes farming worthwhile even if your character sheet doesn’t immediately show a massive stat increase.

Shub-Niggurath’s Offspring

Location: Overgrown Grove, Realm Tier 7+

If your team relies on minions, this is one of the encounters I’d keep on the farming schedule.

The boss floods the battlefield with additional creatures, so area damage is extremely important. That same mechanic also makes the Thousand-Young Greatboots particularly interesting.

Their bonuses scale according to the number of active minions. In a conventional build, that might not look spectacular. In a properly designed summoner setup, though, the effect can become a major source of scaling.

The Bark-Skin Crest is another interesting option for defensive teams. Physical blocking combined with reflected damage gives tanks something useful to do besides simply absorbing hits.

Dark Tower Farming: Don’t Just Push Forever

The Dark Tower is probably the easiest place to fall into the “higher is always better” trap.

It isn’t.

The Tower’s predictable progression makes it excellent for targeted Unique farming because different level ranges open access to different gear pools.

Floors 1–40

This is primarily leveling territory.

You’re looking at lower-level Unique weapons and armor, including things such as the Initiate’s Silver Band and Tome of the Forbidden Word.

If your team is already deleting these floors instantly, they’re fine for early farming. Otherwise, don’t spend too much time here once better content becomes available.

Floors 41–80

This is where things get considerably more interesting.

Unique shields, boots and gloves begin entering the picture, and specific elite guardians become worthwhile targets.

The Gauntlets of Shattered Reality, for example, are associated with elite guardians around Floor 75. If you’re specifically hunting them, targeted runs make much more sense than randomly climbing the Tower.

Floors 81–150+

Now we’re in proper endgame territory.

The item pools become much more attractive, and high-level Uniques start becoming the reason to farm rather than simply a bonus attached to progression.

The Cosmic Singularity Amulet is particularly important for Mana-stacking builds and is associated with the deeper Tower range.

If your team can comfortably farm Floor 120+, this is the point where I’d start considering the Dark Tower a dedicated gear farm rather than simply another progression ladder.

Realm Modifiers Can Make or Break a Farming Session

The Realm system is one of the more useful tools for players who actually want to optimize their loot.

If you’re burning Realm Keys, don’t treat every map as equally valuable.

I’d personally prioritize modifiers that increase either the number of item opportunities or the frequency of valuable enemies.

Of Abundance is an obvious choice because additional chest rewards mean more chances at worthwhile loot.

Haunted is even more interesting for Unique hunters because of its increased Unique and Elite monster spawn rate.

That matters because every additional elite encounter represents another opportunity for the internal loot system to roll something valuable.

And this is where the idle nature of Path of Idle becomes your friend. Once you’ve found a Realm that your team can clear reliably, you can let the game do much of the work while you focus on other things.

Runewords: Don’t Throw Away Your Bad Uniques

One of my favorite ideas in this whole system is the ability to turn unwanted Unique items into something useful.

Getting a duplicate isn’t nearly as frustrating when it can eventually feed back into your progression.

By salvaging unwanted Uniques into Old God Shards and combining them with higher-tier runes at the Mystic Altar, you can work toward specialized Reliquary Runewords.

The important part is that these aren’t just another crafting material.

The right Runeword setup can help steer your loot toward a particular equipment category. If you’re desperately hunting a weapon, reducing the randomness around your future Unique rolls is extremely valuable.

This is one of those mechanics I’d recommend learning early instead of waiting until your inventory becomes a disaster.

My Preferred Unique Farming Routine

If I were starting a serious endgame farming session, I wouldn’t simply hit “auto” and forget about the game.

I’d do something closer to this:

  • Upgrade town bonuses first. Blacksmith and Alchemist improvements that increase item rarity should be active before a serious farming session.
  • Find your fastest high-value Tower floor. The highest floor you can clear quickly is generally more useful than a floor that barely survives your team.
  • Spend Realm Keys selectively. Prioritize useful modifiers instead of entering every available Realm.
  • Recycle duplicates. Keep anything that has genuine build potential, but don’t let useless duplicates clog your inventory.
  • Target the boss that drops your item. This sounds obvious, but it’s surprisingly easy to forget when you’re chasing general progression.
  • Check your clear time regularly. If your team has become significantly stronger, revisit earlier farming spots. A stage that used to take 40 seconds might now take 8.

The biggest change I’d make to the usual “push as far as possible” mentality is simple:

Farm for efficiency, not bragging rights.

A Tower floor that gives you slightly better loot but takes five times longer to clear isn’t necessarily progression.

What I Would Farm First

If you’re unsure where to spend your time, I’d choose based on your build rather than the perceived rarity of the item.

A Shadow-heavy composition should look toward Xal’atoth and the Void Crypt.

A minion-heavy setup has a much better reason to farm Shub-Niggurath’s Offspring.

Caster teams should consider Y’gari’s loot table, particularly if the Gaze of the Abyss fits the rest of the build.

And if you don’t have a specific target yet, the Dark Tower is the safest general-purpose destination because it naturally pushes your access toward higher-level gear.

Final Thoughts

The best Unique farming strategy in Path of Idle: Old Gods Rising isn’t about finding one magical stage where the game suddenly showers you with orange loot.

It’s about understanding which loot pool you’re farming and why.

That distinction saves an absurd amount of time.

If an item is global, farm quickly. If it’s boss-specific, stop wasting time elsewhere. If it’s tied to a Tower range, build your team around clearing that range efficiently. And when Realm modifiers give you more elite encounters or additional loot opportunities, take advantage of them.

Most importantly, don’t let RNG convince you that your build is broken.

Sometimes you simply haven’t found the item that makes the build click yet.

That’s basically the eternal loot-RPG problem: you can spend an evening getting absolutely nothing useful, then one chest finally drops the Unique you’ve been waiting for — and suddenly the entire team starts behaving like a completely different machine.

That’s when Path of Idle gets really addictive.
