Is Enshrouded Coming to Xbox Game Pass? Version 1.0 Release Date and Details

I’ve played a ridiculous number of survival games over the years. Some grabbed me because of their crafting, others because of exploration, and a few managed to keep me playing simply because building something ridiculous was almost as entertaining as the actual game. Enshrouded belongs to that last group, but it also does something a little different. It mixes survival crafting with action RPG combat, a surprisingly flexible skill system, and voxel construction that can turn the world itself into your building material.

That combination is a big reason why Enshrouded has built such a strong following since entering Steam Early Access in January 2024. Keen Games didn’t just throw another survival sandbox onto Steam and leave it alone. The developers have spent the Early Access period expanding the world, adding systems, improving multiplayer, and steadily turning Embervale into something much closer to a full RPG adventure. Now that Version 1.0 is approaching, though, Xbox players have one question on their minds: will Enshrouded be included with Xbox Game Pass?

Right now, the answer is frustratingly simple: there is no official Xbox Game Pass announcement. That doesn’t mean it will never happen, but anyone claiming that an Xbox Game Pass launch has already been confirmed is getting ahead of the actual information.

Enshrouded Version 1.0 Release Date

The biggest Enshrouded news is the move out of Early Access. Keen Games has announced that Version 1.0 launches on October 15, 2026, bringing the game to its next major stage after more than two years of development.

For PC and PlayStation 5 players, including PS5 Pro owners, October 15 is the important date. Xbox players have a different schedule, however, because the Xbox Series X|S version has been pushed back to Spring 2027.

Honestly, as someone who has watched plenty of ambitious survival games launch with technical problems, I’m not automatically annoyed by this delay. Enshrouded is not a simple survival game where the biggest challenge is keeping a few dozen objects loaded around the player. Its voxel world is designed to be changed on a huge scale. You can dig into terrain, reshape landscapes, construct enormous buildings, and play cooperatively while all of this is happening.

That creates a completely different optimization problem.

Keen Games CEO Jan Jöckel has explained that the Xbox delay is connected to the technical demands of the game, particularly its combination of voxel technology, a large open world, terraforming, and multiplayer systems. The studio’s decision appears to be to spend additional development time rather than release an Xbox version that doesn’t perform at the standard the team wants.

For me, that’s a much easier delay to understand than simply saying a port needs ‘more polish.’

So, Is Enshrouded Coming to Xbox Game Pass?

As of September 2026, neither Keen Games nor Microsoft has officially confirmed Enshrouded for Xbox Game Pass or PC Game Pass.

There is also no confirmed day-one Game Pass deal for the October 2026 Version 1.0 launch. The Xbox Series X|S version isn’t arriving until Spring 2027 anyway, so there is currently no official information saying that Game Pass subscribers will receive the game when the console edition eventually launches.

That’s the part worth keeping clear because speculation has already started filling the gap.

The game received a scheduled price increase on September 8, 2026, bringing the standard price to $39.99, or the regional equivalent. Considering how much Enshrouded has expanded since its original Early Access release, the higher price isn’t particularly surprising. But it does make the Game Pass question more interesting for players who would rather wait for a subscription release than purchase the game outright.

At the moment, though, Game Pass availability is speculation, not a confirmed feature.

Why Are Xbox Players Expecting a Game Pass Announcement?

This is where things get interesting.

If you spend enough time around Xbox communities, you’ll quickly notice that survival crafting games and Game Pass have become a very natural pairing. Titles such as Valheim and Palworld have demonstrated just how well this genre can fit Microsoft’s subscription ecosystem, especially when multiplayer is involved.

Enshrouded checks a lot of the same boxes.

It has survival mechanics, crafting, exploration, character progression, large-scale construction, online co-op, and a world that encourages players to spend dozens or even hundreds of hours experimenting with different builds. That’s almost tailor-made for a subscription service where players constantly look for something new to play with friends.

But there is a difference between ‘this game would make sense on Game Pass’ and ‘Microsoft has signed a Game Pass deal.’

Those are two completely different things.

PS5 Version 1.0Confirmed
Xbox Series X|SSpring 2027

So while I can understand why players are connecting the dots, I wouldn’t treat those dots as an announcement.

The Xbox Series S Problem Is Probably a Bigger Deal Than Game Pass

One thing that keeps coming up in community discussions is the Xbox Series S.

This makes sense when you look at what Enshrouded actually does. Voxel environments are great for players because they allow a level of freedom that traditional worlds often can’t provide. Want to carve a tunnel through a mountain? Build a giant castle? Flatten an area and completely redesign it? That’s part of the appeal.

But the more freedom you give players to alter the environment, the more complicated the technical side becomes.

Now add multiplayer, enemies, physics, weather, a huge world, loading systems, and everything else running underneath the survival RPG mechanics. Getting that experience running consistently across Xbox Series X and Series S is a serious engineering task.

I’ve seen plenty of survival games where the PC version feels great while the console version has obvious compromises. I’d much rather see Keen Games take additional time than release Enshrouded on Xbox and discover that massive player-built settlements turn the game into a slideshow.

That is especially important for Game Pass.

A Game Pass release could potentially put Enshrouded in front of a huge number of Xbox players very quickly. If the Xbox version still had major performance problems when that happened, the first impression could be rough.

Xbox Play Anywhere Makes the Situation More Interesting

Another piece of the puzzle is Xbox Play Anywhere.

Keen Games has indicated that it intends to support the Xbox Play Anywhere framework. For players who buy the digital version through Microsoft’s ecosystem, this can mean access across Xbox and Windows PC, along with synchronized progression.

From a player’s perspective, this is exactly the kind of feature I like seeing in a cross-platform survival game.

These are games where you don’t necessarily want to be locked to one machine. Maybe I spend a few hours building a base on my PC, then want to continue playing from the couch. If the progression follows me properly, the whole experience becomes much more convenient.

It also makes Enshrouded’s relationship with the Microsoft ecosystem more interesting, even though Play Anywhere does not automatically mean Game Pass.

That’s an important distinction.

What Makes Enshrouded 1.0 Worth Watching?

Even if you completely ignore the Xbox Game Pass situation, Version 1.0 is a significant milestone.

The Early Access period has given Keen Games plenty of time to expand the original concept. The game now features a much larger world, additional biomes, more environmental variety, deeper character progression, and more sophisticated building tools.

The main highlights include:

  • New biomes with different environments and dangers.
  • Dynamic weather that changes the feel of exploration.
  • A deeper open-ended skill tree supporting different character builds.
  • Expanded voxel construction and community-focused building features.
  • Multiplayer support for up to 16 players on dedicated servers.
  • A substantially expanded world and story compared with the original Early Access release.

The skill system is probably one of the features I appreciate most. I’ve played enough survival games where character progression eventually becomes little more than ‘increase this number, craft the next tool.’ Enshrouded has more of an RPG structure, letting players shape characters around different approaches.

You can lean into warrior-style combat, experiment with magic, build around ranged attacks, or create something more specialized.

That makes the survival systems feel like part of a larger RPG rather than the entire point of the game.

Should Xbox Players Wait for 2027?

If you’re exclusively an Xbox player, there isn’t much choice right now because the Xbox version isn’t scheduled until Spring 2027.

Personally, I would use the delay as an opportunity rather than treating it purely as bad news. By the time Enshrouded reaches Xbox, the PC and PS5 versions will have already given Keen Games additional real-world feedback from the 1.0 release.

The other thing I’d watch is the Game Pass situation.

Microsoft could announce a Game Pass partnership later. It could also arrive through the service at a completely different point in the game’s life. There simply isn’t enough official information right now to say when or whether that will happen.

If you’re interested in Enshrouded and don’t want to wait, the October 15 Version 1.0 launch gives PC and PS5 players the opportunity to jump in earlier. If you’re an Xbox player who specifically wants to experience it through Game Pass, keeping an eye on announcements around the Spring 2027 Xbox release makes more sense than treating current rumors as fact.

My Take After Playing So Many Survival Games

The thing that keeps Enshrouded interesting for me isn’t actually the Game Pass question. It’s the combination of systems.

I’ve played survival games focused almost entirely on crafting, games where building is the main attraction, and RPGs that happen to have survival mechanics. Enshrouded feels like Keen Games is trying to combine all three without allowing one system to completely overwhelm the others.

That doesn’t mean everyone will love it. Survival games are incredibly personal. Some players want hardcore resource management, some want relaxed building, and others mainly want combat and exploration. Enshrouded sits somewhere in the middle, and its appeal comes from being able to move between those activities without constantly feeling like you’re playing a different game.

The Xbox delay is disappointing if you’ve been waiting for the console version, but I don’t think it changes what makes Enshrouded worth watching. The real question for Xbox players is now whether the additional development time results in a strong Series X|S release — and whether Microsoft eventually decides to put the game into Game Pass.

For now, Game Pass remains unconfirmed. The dates we actually have are much clearer: Enshrouded Version 1.0 arrives on PC and PS5 on October 15, 2026, while Xbox Series X|S players are waiting for Spring 2027.

And honestly, after seeing how many survival games struggle when they rush their console versions, I’d rather wait a little longer for a version that can handle all those ridiculous castles players are going to build.

Enshrouded has already come a long way from its Early Access launch. Version 1.0 is where we’ll finally get to see whether all those years of expansion have turned it into the big survival RPG that its voxel world has always promised to be.
