The original game can sometimes become wonderfully chaotic. You start with a carefully planned infiltration, someone accidentally shoots an alarm, a helicopter arrives, the entire base goes into combat mode, and suddenly your stealth operation has become a small-scale war.
I love that side of Wildlands.
But a more deliberately structured mission is a nice change of pace, especially for veterans who have already cleared huge sections of the original campaign.
The anniversary content also brings back the Predator crossover event, giving returning players another reason to explore the world after finishing the main story.
Your Progression Should Come With You
If you’re worried about losing years of progress, that is probably the biggest concern before making the jump.

Then you have Last Rites, which gives veteran players something genuinely new to do, while the returning Predator event adds another nostalgic reason to jump back in.
And perhaps the best part is the price of entry for existing PS4 owners: you don’t have to start over or buy the base game again simply to get the PS5 technical upgrade.
My verdict
If you already own Wildlands on PS4, I see very little reason not to install the PS5 version.
The upgrade addresses several of the game’s biggest technical weaknesses, and the 60 FPS target alone makes the difference obvious once you return to the open world.
If you’ve never played Wildlands, this is arguably one of the better times to finally try it.
Just remember the important distinction:
The free PS5 upgrade is not the same thing as receiving the entire Definitive Edition for free.
Check your existing DLC licenses before spending anything, transfer your saves carefully, and then go back to Bolivia.
Because after all these years, there is still something strangely satisfying about marking an entire enemy base, whispering a plan to your squad, and watching everything go completely wrong thirty seconds later.
