Far Cry 6 Amigos Guide: How to Get Chorizo and Unlock All Guapo Abilities
One of the things I really enjoy about Far Cry 6 is that the game does not force you to approach every military outpost in exactly the same way. You can grab an assault rifle, kick the front door open, and turn an FND checkpoint into absolute chaos, or you can crawl through the grass, quietly remove guards, and leave everyone wondering what happened.
The Amigos are a big part of that freedom.
These animal companions are not just cosmetic pets that follow Dani around Yara. Each one has a specific role, personality, and gameplay purpose. Some are designed to soak up bullets and cause mayhem, while others are much better suited to stealth and exploration.
Two Amigos in particular stand out to me: Guapo, the ridiculously intimidating crocodile, and Chorizo, the tiny dachshund on wheels.
They could not be more different.
Guapo is basically a walking armored vehicle with teeth. Chorizo, meanwhile, looks like he should be worrying about finding a comfortable blanket rather than infiltrating an FND base. Yet both can be extremely useful once you understand how their abilities work.
This Far Cry 6 Amigos guide explains how to unlock Guapo and Chorizo, what their abilities actually do, and the easiest ways to complete the milestones required to upgrade them.
How to Unlock Guapo in Far Cry 6
Guapo is the first major Amigo most players will encounter, and thankfully, you really cannot miss him if you follow the main story.
After starting the campaign on Isla Santuario, continue through the early missions until you reach Juan of a Kind. The mission introduces Dani to Juan Cortez, one of the most important characters in the guerrilla resistance.
Juan’s introduction also brings Guapo into the picture.
After the mission’s combat encounters and objectives are completed, Guapo becomes available as a permanent Amigo. From there, you can select him through the Amigos system and call him into action whenever the game allows it.
And honestly, having a crocodile casually walking beside Dani never stops being funny.
Guapo at a Glance
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Role | Combat Tank |
| Unlock | Complete Juan of a Kind |
| Region | Isla Santuario |
| Base Ability | Ancient Survivor |
| Specialty | Survivability and frontline combat |
| Best For | Loud assaults and aggressive play |
Why Guapo Is So Good in Combat
Guapo’s defining trait is Ancient Survivor.
His entire design revolves around staying alive. Guapo can recover health when he is out of combat, but the really useful part is his ability to self-revive after being downed.
That makes a noticeable difference during larger firefights.
Normally, if an Amigo gets knocked out, you have to think about whether it is worth putting yourself in danger to revive them. Guapo removes some of that pressure because he can get back on his feet himself.
For me, that makes him especially entertaining during chaotic base assaults. You can send Guapo toward a group of soldiers, reposition yourself, and let him create a distraction while you work on the more dangerous targets.
He is not invincible, of course, but his ability to recover makes him much more forgiving than many other companions.
Guapo’s Three Unlockable Abilities
Guapo has three additional abilities that become available after completing specific gameplay milestones.
1. Body Regulation
What it does: Guapo gains the ability to regenerate health while actively fighting.
How to unlock it: Guapo must successfully use his self-revive ability five times.
The easiest approach is simply to keep using Guapo during difficult combat encounters. If you want to speed things up, send him toward dangerous enemies and allow his self-revive mechanic to trigger.
Some players also use dangerous wildlife encounters to create opportunities for Guapo to be downed and revive himself.
Once Body Regulation is active, Guapo becomes much more comfortable staying in prolonged fights.
2. Cornered Beast
What it does: When Guapo falls below 50% health, he receives increased resistance to incoming damage.
How to unlock it: Guapo must regenerate a total of 3,000 health points while in combat.
This is one of those upgrades that works naturally if you simply keep playing with him.
I would unlock Body Regulation first, then take Guapo into larger firefights. Let him take some punishment, allow his regeneration to work, and continue playing normally. There is little reason to obsess over the counter once his health regeneration is active.
3. Reptile Metabolism
What it does: Guapo’s self-revive becomes significantly stronger, restoring him to 90% of his maximum health.
How to unlock it: Guapo must eliminate 50 targets.
The target count can be built naturally through combat, but you can also use wildlife encounters if you want to work toward the milestone faster.
Once Reptile Metabolism is unlocked, Guapo becomes even more difficult to keep down. His ability to return from a knockout with most of his health intact fits perfectly with his role as a combat-focused Amigo.
How to Get Chorizo in Far Cry 6
If Guapo is the Amigo I take when I want explosions, Chorizo is the one I choose when I want to feel like a stealth specialist.
The little dachshund is one of the most memorable characters in Far Cry 6, partly because his appearance completely contradicts the game’s violent setting.
He is tiny, adorable, uses wheels to move around, and somehow manages to become extremely useful during infiltration.
Unlike Guapo, Chorizo is not unlocked through the early main story.
Step 1: Reach Madrugada
First, progress through the opening section of the campaign on Isla Santuario.
After completing the necessary introductory missions and opening up the wider map, travel toward Madrugada and begin working with the Montero family.
Step 2: Complete Meet the Monteros
Follow the main story in Madrugada until you complete Meet the Monteros.
This introduces the Montero family and opens up the Montero Farm, which becomes the location you need for Chorizo’s recruitment.
Step 3: Start Who’s a Good Boy
Once Montero Farm is available, look for Chorizo near his kennel.
Interact with him to begin the Yaran Story Who’s a Good Boy.
This is where the game starts turning Chorizo from an adorable background character into an actual companion.
Step 4: Find Yaran Crocodile Meat
Chorizo needs food, and unfortunately for several crocodiles in Yara, that food happens to be Yaran Crocodile Meat.
Head toward the crocodile hunting area near the Cortina River, hunt the animals, and collect the required meat.
One important thing to remember is to avoid destroying the crocodiles with explosives or other overly destructive weapons. You want usable meat rather than damaged materials.
Once you have the required meat, return to Montero Farm and feed Chorizo.
Step 5: Complete Fetch Quest
After Who’s a Good Boy, Chorizo’s next Yaran Story, Fetch Quest, becomes available.
This part is much more relaxed.
Simply follow Chorizo around Montero Farm as he searches for hidden items. He will lead you to several locations and dig up stashes for you.
Interact with the items he finds and continue following him until the quest is completed.
Afterward, Chorizo becomes available as an Amigo.
Chorizo’s Role: Stealth Support
Chorizo’s main ability is called Attention-Seeker.
Instead of attacking guards, Chorizo distracts them.
When you command him to approach an enemy, the guard becomes focused on the little dog. This creates a short but extremely useful opportunity for Dani to sneak past, reposition, disable an alarm, or perform a stealth takedown.
This is where Chorizo really shines.
He is not supposed to replace a combat Amigo. His entire purpose is to make stealth easier.
If you enjoy clearing FND bases without setting off alarms, Chorizo can be an incredibly useful companion.
Chorizo’s Unlockable Abilities
1. Bloodhound
What it does: Chorizo can help identify nearby crafting materials, components, and other useful resources.
How to unlock it: Have Chorizo successfully distract 10 enemies using Attention-Seeker.
The easiest method is straightforward: find isolated guards, send Chorizo over, and let him do what he does best.
This ability becomes especially useful when you are gathering materials for upgrades and weapon modifications.
2. Yes, You Can
What it does: Petting Chorizo restores some of Dani’s missing health.
How to unlock it: Have Chorizo tag 36 loot chests while exploring Yara.
This is one of the more interesting utility abilities because it gives Chorizo a direct benefit for exploration. Instead of simply being a distraction tool, he becomes a source of healing as well.
Keep him active while exploring military bases, underground locations, and areas containing multiple loot chests.
3. Keen Senses
What it does: Chorizo can randomly dig up useful items and crafting resources while exploring.
How to unlock it: Use the healing effect from Yes, You Can by petting Chorizo 50 times.
This ability rewards players who already enjoy having Chorizo around. Once you have Yes, You Can unlocked, simply make a habit of petting him whenever you need healing.
Eventually, the milestone will take care of itself.

Guapo vs. Chorizo: Which Amigo Fits Your Playstyle?
I would not really think of Guapo and Chorizo as direct competitors. They are built around completely different approaches to Far Cry 6.
| Amigo | Main Role | Best Use | Key Strength |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guapo | Combat Tank | Open combat | Self-revive and durability |
| Chorizo | Stealth Support | Infiltration | Enemy distraction and utility |
If you are attacking a heavily defended FND position with a rifle, explosives, and absolutely no intention of being subtle, Guapo makes perfect sense.
If you are trying to sneak through the same location without turning the entire base against you, Chorizo becomes much more attractive.
Personally, I like switching between them depending on what I am doing. Guapo makes random encounters and large firefights more entertaining, while Chorizo is fantastic when I want to slow down and approach a base carefully.

Final Thoughts
The Amigos system is one of the features that gives Far Cry 6 some of its personality. Yara is full of soldiers, weapons, explosions, and political conflict, so having companions like Guapo and Chorizo adds a welcome bit of character to the experience.
Guapo is the powerhouse. He is built to take punishment, revive himself, and stay involved in messy fights.
Chorizo is the utility specialist. He is better suited to stealth, distractions, exploration, and gathering useful resources.
The best part is that you do not have to commit to one forever. Once unlocked, both can become valuable tools depending on what you are trying to accomplish.
If you are still early in the campaign, I would recommend unlocking both as soon as their respective quests become available. Even if you end up favoring one Amigo, having access to different companion abilities makes Yara’s many outposts, checkpoints, and exploration areas much more flexible.
And let’s be honest: running around a revolutionary island with a crocodile in a denim shirt and a dachshund on wheels is exactly the kind of ridiculous Far Cry energy that makes the series memorable.
